Welcome to Wolvercote Cricket Club

Outdoor Nets

Henceforth, Tuesday outdoors will begin at 6.30pm with fielding practice, followed by nets at 7pm. On no account are nets to begin earlier than this. The fielding drills will be on the outfield between the nets and the driveway to Esporta. In the interests of decency, could you please change prior to arrival, in your car, or perhaps in the Sports Hall. Certainly not on the playing fields!

Home Venue

Please note that due to refurbishment work at Cutteslowe Park, all home league and cup games for both the First XI and Second XI from May 4th to July 27th, 2013 inclusive will be played at Marston Sports Ground. This ground is located at the very end, and I mean very end, of Edgeway Road which is off the Marston Road.  Marston Heating Supplies is on the corner of Edgeway Road and Marston Road and that is where you need to turn.

Fixtures

Welcome to our website. If you are a member of a cricket team which is looking for fixtures either midweek (preferably Wednesdays) or on Sundays, please get in touch. We already have a reasonably comprehensive  schedule for this coming season but there are a few gaps.

Season 2012

Last Saturday, September 15th, witnessed the final act of the 2012 OCA season. Victory for SSJ Willows meant that Wolvercote 1st XI would finish runners up in Division 5 and thereby play their cricket in Division 4 in 2013. Overall, a good season which did not get off to a good start but under new captain, Tim MacIntyre, the players rallied well winning 10 of their last 11 matches completed.

The Second XI lost 6 of their 14 fixtures to the weather. However, they managed to win 6 of the remaining 8 matches to finish 3rd in their division (10) and should find themselves playing in Division 9 next year.

The T20 calendar was also blighted by the dreadful weather, and of  15 arranged games only 7 survived. We contrived to lose 5 of these, most auspiciously the one gifting the ‘Ashes’ to Wytham. We also succumbed to Garsington in the 1/4 finals of the Pullinger Cup despite a courageous effort.

The already small Sunday fixture campaign was truncated further by heavy rain (again). Consequently, only 2 games took place both resulting for wins for the Club. I have to say that the spirit in which we engage in all cricket, but especially the midweek and Sunday stuff, is quite exemplary and to play or participate in them is a very enjoyable experience.

May I also take this opportunity to extend my thanks on behalf of the entire membership to those who have contributed over the season. This, of course, includes the players, but more so perhaps, the Umpires, Andy Robinson and Patrick Boyd-Maunsell, the Fixtures Secretary, Carl Tipler, St Edwards School (for nets/pitches/teas), and our sponsors, the Plough (Wolvercote), Guy Salmon (Jaguar), and The Punter (Osney Island).

I am already thinking of next season, as well as polishing off the remnants of this (eg the Dinner), so if you are not yet a member, please get in touch. Winter nets will start again at the turn of the year, just 3 months away, and great turnouts will only improve the competition for places and prepare us for tougher battles ahead in the 2013 campaign..
